Garrison sidewalk fundraiser, August 26

The Garrison Lions Club will be teaming up with the Garrison Library Board on Monday, August 26, from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm at the Garrison Rest Area along the Old Creamery Nature Trail. This fundraiser will be for a new sidewalk and curb in front of the Farmers Mercantile in downtown Garrison. The Garrison Lions Club will be grilling burgers and hotdogs and serving chips, macaroni salad (donated by Fareway), and water for a freewill offering.

Bring the Noise Kiwanis 5K - August 24

The Vinton Kiwanis hold an annual 5K race the week of Boomtown. The race benefits the Vinton Shellsburg Backpack Program which helps to feed the children in the area. The event will take place on Saturday, August 24, at 8:00 a.m.  Registration begins at 7:00 a.m.  Meet on the East side of the Benton County Courthouse.Entry Fee is $20 per person or $50 per family of three or more.

VPL Read-Aloud Book Club Every Tuesday!

Join us for a weekly read-aloud book club, held offsite at the Lutheran Home Assisted Living Center in VInton. Connie, our Library Assistant reads aloud for an hour from a book chosen by the group. The club meets every Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. at  the Vinton Lutheran Home Communities and Services located at 1301 2nd Ave. in Vinton.Join us next on August 20th.

Benton County Conservation presents "Cicadas!" August 13 10:00 a.m.

Benton County Conservation will be presenting "Cicadas!" at the Vinton Public LIbrary. Join us on Tuesday, August 13 beginning at 10:00 a.m. to learn all about cicades. The library is located at 510 2nd Ave. in Vinton. 

Strawberry Storytime with the Bookmobile August 12 & 16

Join the Vinton Public Library for a special Strawberry Storytime with the Bookmobile. The library will be providing strawberries, cool whip and Nilla wafers while we read a portion of the book, "Strawberry Girl," by Lois Lenski and other fun stories. Thanks to the Lois Lenski Covey Foundation, our library received a $1,000 grant to help us purchase new books for our bicycle-powered bookmobile! Lois Lenski is the author of the classic children's book 'Strawberry Girl.
